Project Titanium is an initiative to fast-tracking IIT Bombay's research to market via entrepreneurship - a model every Indian institution can follow. This comprehensive program aims to transition IP-based teams, led by faculty from prototypes to generating early revenue through bespoke mentoring, matchmaking of co-founders, identifying industry partners for scale up & a grant (enabled by donations). Being a deep-tech pre-incubation initiative at SINE,IIT Bombay, Project Titanium helps startup ideas from researchers and faculty to methodically progress along two dimensions: Technology Readiness Levels (TRLs), and Market Readiness Levels (MRLs) simultaneously.

The program is spearheaded by SINE and supported by distinguished IIT Bombay alumni Mr Rajesh Jain & Mr Ramesh Mangaleswaran along with Dr Ajay Sethi and Prof Anuradha Narasimhan.

Sector Focus

Project Titanium is sector-agnostic and currently supports only IPs originating from IIT Bombay.

Objective

Methodical progress along both the TechReadinessLevel and MarketReadinessLevel dimensions

Enable faculty-led commercialization of IP and research.

Build strong startup teams with co-founders, mentors, and industry advisors.

Provide early-stage capital and strategic guidance.

Create a replicable model of academic entrepreneurship in India.

Key Components

1) IP Sourcing and Selection

• Work with professors to identify IPs.

• Conduct TRL assessments and commercialization readiness scans.

2) Team Formation

• Match faculty innovators with vetted business co-founders through Titanium- led outreach.

• Support onboarding of mentors and subject matter experts.

3) Progress along the critical Market Readiness Level Gates

Phase 1:
Gate #1: Secure a well formed team
Gate #2: Pick a large market
Phase 2:
Gate#3: Select a single problem
Gate#4: Sign-up 1+ co-creators
Gate#5: Secure 1+ paying customers
